Returning to Santa Maria Villa this year, we had a lovely surprise: the owners had constructed a swimming pool on the ground floor level with steps, as well as ladders, so disabled people can use it. With help, I managed. Sheer bliss! There had also been renovations to all the patio areas. As expected, the property was very clean and well maintainted. The villa apartments are in a very quiet residential area of Melleiha yet are close to the bustling lively town. The owners ensure that everything is alright but are not intrusive. If you do require anything, they are more than happy to oblige, whether it be an extra pillow, help or information.
My only complaint this year were the mosquitoes, but the owners can't be held responsible for them!!!
This year we did the round the island day cruise which I'd highly recommend. We also managed to travel much further afield, to places such as Marscasala and Marsaxlokk which was superb.
Unfortunately, one or two of our favourite eating places had closed or reduced their opening hours.......the credit crunch has even reached Malta!
Other than that, I'd recommed any of these properties and Malta to anyone. You either love it or............................

As I am in a wheelchair we were rather worried about the suitability of booking an apartment abroad but the owners assured us it would be ideal, and it was. The owners were so kind & helpful but not at all intrusive.
The property was very clean and well maintained. On the one evening when we had a terrific rain storm and water flooded everywhere, they quickly cleaned up.Nothing was too much trouble for them. The apartments are in a lively town but set back from the hustle 'n' bustle so you get a peacful nights sleep.
There are so many places to see & things to do that after such a great holiday in 2006 we returned in 2007 to the Merrill Apartments.
The owners are so caring and helpful, the apartments clean and bright, the weather superb, the locals so friendly, the food's great and plenty to do and see IF you've got transport or just laze on the beach: what more do you want on holiday?
Malta here we come again!

the apartment was fairly basic, nice and clean. There is a good working lift. The pool is clean and well maintained. The surrounding area is quiet and residential, you will need transport to get to shops etc. Melliehas main street has some nice places to eat, the Bay is sandy but very crowded, would recommend Golden Bay area instead for a beach.
The owner was helpful and friendly but not interfering. I would use this accomodation again if the price stayed reasonable.

we have stayed for two weeks at this merill apartments in September 2008. The owner was very friedly and helpful. The organization and communication was fantastic. Thanks !! Pick up from the airport, car rental was all perfect organized.
Regardig the accommodation: It was clean and big enough to stay there with three people (Two seperte bedroms, one with an additional toilet). Also the pool area was nice to get a cooling after a warm day.
The area was beautiful and quite enough to get relaxed. Even if you wanted to have a party you had to go into the town with it´s several bars. The beach at Melieh was sandy, clean and not over crowded. Think that depends on the reason.
All required shops can be found in the area nearby, bakery, butcher, fish shop, patistery, supermarket.
Generlly al the prices were fair, also within the restaurants which were not bad. A car is definitively needed all the time.

Following improvemts could be made: We arrived in the late evening and were tired and thirsty but there was no water available at the apartment. A plan of the near area would be helpful when you arrive.

Sure to come back in some years.

Had we stayed at the apartment for only 1 week we may have given it a 3 star review but having stayed for 12 nights I'm afraid it can only get 2 star. We were only given two towels each to last our entire stay and not once did the bed sheets get changed. The hot water was entirely hit or miss and at times the water would only trickle out meaning having a hot shower was a non-starter on several mornings.  The kitchen also had an ant infestion and would appear if you left the smallest breadcrumb on the work surface. I would like to point out that the owners son, Jeffrey, was very helpful each time I had to contact him. I would definetly suggest getting a hire car if you stayed at these apartments as the walk from the main street is quite a distance.

Owner's Response: The hot water system was taken care of immediately and is now
completed fixed.  we usually provide 2 bath towels per person, have contacted person in charge - and possibility of a mixed up.... guests contacted us after the week- when their towels got soaked from rain the night before, which we replaced immediately. When the apartment was cleared after departure - we took quite a lot of garbage - a big bin is provided outside the place for all guests to empty their own bins when needed
for collection every morning. apologies for any inconveniences -
client had constant/immediate attention when need - we would have been happy to oblige with any misunderstanding ...

Excellent accomodation, the stairs are a bit of killer and the walk up to the Village is a bit up hill (downhill coming back) ,but when you get there, everything is there, plenty of eating places and pubs, not forgetting the Bus stops, several grocery shops as well.
A hire car is best, but buses are OK, a car or bus ride down to the bay is very worthwhile and the beach is excellent.
everyone speaks english !.
dont miss the Church, but dont park under the trees at night !
